This design proposal leverages the existing golf clubhouse and the parking lot across the road to accommodate the new programs. The Willingdon Club complex boasts a variety of architectural styles, including Neo-Greek, Colonial, and British Bungalow. These styles are characterized by deep verandas, large sloping roofs, colonnaded facades, and a combination of white painted plaster and timber elements. While the new building will not be directly adjacent to these heritage structures, it is important to maintain a cohesive architectural relationship. The site is enriched with beautiful old trees that contribute to a comfortable micro climate and provide natural shading. The preservation of these trees is paramount to maintaining the club’s green character.
To facilitate the construction of the new building, the existing Golf Office and Hut, which are in a state of disrepair, will be removed. This decision allows for a more permanent solution rather than temporary repairs. The new two-story building will be situated on the same site, ensuring the cabbage patch remains in use.
Ground Floor: The design includes a recessed veranda on the ground floor, providing shade and protection from the rain. This feature mimics the architectural style of the existing buildings on the site, promoting continuity.
Upper Floor: The upper floor will feature verandas extending from the restaurant, offering patrons scenic views of the golf course. This integration not only provides functional outdoor space but also enhances the dining experience with a connection to the natural surroundings.
Re purposing : The existing structure of the golf hut will be repurposed within the new restaurant space, ensuring that a piece of the club’s history is retained and incorporated into the new design.
Given the extensive canopies and root systems of the trees, placing a conventional swimming pool building would likely damage these roots. To mitigate this, the pool will be elevated on an upper level with cantilevered sides. This innovative design reduces the need for extensive foundations and excavation, preserving the root systems of the trees.
Design Elements: The pool area will include a viewing deck on a mezzanine level, creating a unique vantage point for visitors. A juice bar on this level will provide a refreshing retreat, allowing guests to relax and enjoy views of the pool and the surrounding landscape.
Aesthetic Integration: The pool’s design will incorporate materials and architectural elements that harmonize with the existing club structures. This includes using white painted plaster and timber elements, ensuring visual coherence across the site.
The proposal blends modern amenities with the historical character of the Willingdon Club complex, creating a seamless dialogue between old and new. By preserving the natural landscape and integrating the architectural heritage with sensitive design, the new structures enhance the experience for club members and visitors, reinforcing the timeless prestige of the Willingdon Club Golf Course.
