50 Beautiful Houses in India – the Riparian House, White Flag
The Coffee Table Book is a compilation of 50 beautiful houses in India. It is curated by Mr Alfaz Miller and his team. This title is an outcome of an intense dialogue with 50 renowned architects and interior designers of India. The 450 page coffee table book includes 161 elaborate site plans, elevations and sections and 461 brilliant photographs.
Therefore the book becomes an important reference point for emerging architects, aspiring home owners, art connoisseurs and book lovers. Since it has covered houses from across the country it allows the reader to experience a wide range and scope of styles and genres. The book showcases sprawling houses in discerning metropolis like Mumbai, Chennai & Delhi.
The Riparian House
The typology of The Riparian House is well-known: a weekend home set in a beautiful landscape. While the architecture of this type has become increasingly predictable, this house takes a very different approach. It uses the found landscape and tectonics of the terrain to its advantage. In return it transforms architecture in close collaboration with the land. The clever plan enables the users to access light and air in varying quantities through the house.
The earth on the green roof insulates the spaces below in hot summer months. This small house, built with reasonable sensitivity and consideration exemplifies the great architectural opportunity in designing weekend homes while addressing the core concerns of good architecture – context, economy, spatial organisation and the beautiful detail.
