Nature’s Path: A Luxury Resort in the Rewilded Grasslands of Kaziranga’s Rhino Habitat
The design of this 120-room luxury resort draws inspiration from the concept of re-wilding, transforming long-abandoned paddy fields on and around the site into a thriving, biodiverse landscape. This initiative extends the natural riparian environment of the Brahmaputra River, creating a continuum of grasslands, meadows, and wetlandsinterspersed with tranquil natural ponds. The re-wilded terrain provides essential habitat for endangered wildlife, establishing a sanctuary that contributes to biodiversity and the long-term sustainability of local species. Additionally, the design lays the foundation for a wildlife corridor, connecting the rewilded site with the forested hills on its southern boundary, thus enhancing ecological linkages for wildlife movement and conservation.
The luxury resort features around 20 safari-style lodges, thoughtfully placed throughout the landscape to create intimate, immersive experiences within the wilderness. These lodges provide guests with close encounters with nature while blending seamlessly into the environment. The main resort building, designed as a stilted structure, appears to hover gracefully above the grasslands and water bodies, minimizing its impact on the land and offering sweeping views of the surroundings.
The main hotel’s 1o0 rooms are arranged in an amoeba-shaped disc overlooking the expansive rewilded landscape or opening up onto a lush, verdant internal courtyard. This unique layout allows guests to enjoy diverse perspectives—whether it’s gazing across the restored habitat or relaxing in the sheltered, intimate courtyard. At the ground level, the architectural design invites guests to explore a series of spatial experiences that fluidly blend with nature. Several restaurants, pools, a spa and other gathering spaces are punctuated by elements of water and carefully defined architectural forms, evoking a seamless interaction between interior and exterior environments.
This project embodies a sensitive and forward-thinking approach, where luxury meets ecological responsibility. By creating a rich, biodiverse setting and enhancing habitat corridors, the resort not only serves as a luxurious retreat but also as a pioneering model for sustainable development within Kaziranga’s iconic landscape.
