Our own studio is located in a 50-year-old building that used to be a garment mill, right in the heart of Worli. We’ve transformed this historic space to create an inspiring and flexible 3,500 sq. ft office. Instead of using walls to divide the space like in the original layout, we removed most of them to allow for better flow, both visually and physically. This open layout makes it easier to connect and communicate within the studio.
One of the biggest changes we made was adding two cutouts in the floors, improving the way people move between the ground and first levels and letting in more natural light and air. We’ve set up workstations on the first floor, while the conference rooms and pantry are located on the ground floor. This arrangement helps separate quieter, focused work areas from more social spaces while still keeping them connected.
The materials and finishes in the office are simple and natural, keeping some of the original features like the old factory flooring and ceiling. We’ve left many surfaces unfinished to give them a raw, timeless look that will age beautifully with the studio. The overall vibe is earthy, with natural tones of brown and grey, highlighted by plants and small pops of color.
Light plays a big role in creating the atmosphere. As the day goes on, sunlight casts interesting shadows across the walls and corners, adding a touch of warmth and charm to the space. We’ve chosen furniture and fabrics that soften the industrial feel, making the studio cozy and inviting. Key features like a Frangipani tree in the courtyard and an Ena De Silva tapestry in the reception area pay homage to the work of architect Geoffrey Bawa, who continues to inspire us. Our studio’s neutral design allows the artwork, books, and models on display to shine, giving our space a unique and creative character.
